Thank you for giving me a shot at my miracle!
Hi, my name is Shanna Roenicke, I’m in the fight for my life and looking for a miracle! I have been battling a very rare form of cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) over the past two years. It only affects 1-4% of people worldwide. Devastatingly enough, prior to this diagnosis, at age 14, I was also diagnosed with a very rare cancer called Acute Myeloid Leukemia, having only a 17% chance of survival. By the grace of God I survived, after almost a year of being hospitalized. I dedicated my life to helping children, teens, and young adults as a Child Life Specialist at a local Children’s Hospital by normalizing the hospital environment, and reducing stress, anxiety, and medical trauma. I have cared for several patients in Oncology, ICU, Emergency, Surgical and Medical units as well as an Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center. My firsthand experience with cancer has given me a special lens to care for others going through a similar journey.
In November of 2022, I got the gut-wrenching news that I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I was absolutely crushed and had to mentally prepare to start chemotherapy. Unfortunately, after several rounds of chemo and various regiments, including TX IBC experts, I became resistant to all treatments, traditional and nontraditional. My life is on the line. Surgery is not an option. In the last 6 weeks, my tumor has doubled in size and metastasized to multiple places in my body. I am at stage VI, and I was told “I am in a critical situation and cannot be cured!”
I am in a lot of pain, and in a dire position. I have a very aggressive and fast-moving cancer, and I really need your help. There are no treatment plans available, and my only hope is an alternative therapy that is not covered by insurance. This therapy is in TX, and the treatment alone is $17-25k a month. I know this is an astronomical amount of money and it’s a lot to ask, but without this I will die. If you find it in your heart to give any amount big or small, you will be helping me with my last shot to live. I have so many hopes and dreams, and so many more patients and families to help. I want to watch my nieces and nephews get married and I pray I will get the opportunity to have my own family someday. I want the opportunity to be a mom, watch my kids grow and get to grow old with someone myself.
